Research & Development
In order to maintain its market leadership and competitive advantage, Forthnet invests heavily in Innovation. Its Innovation department is established at the company's headquarters in Athens, and maintains premises at the Science and Technology Park of Crete, a key location in Crete where Forthnet was created, just beside the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH); a convenient location for the cooperation with research teams of the Institute of Computer Science.
Forthnet R&D aims to translate ideas into successful products, services or procedures through thorough analysis and advanced engineering:
- Innovation orientation is either market driven, customer driven or even company driven.
- It aims to connect R&D with production, either through the delivery of pilot services, demonstrators and proposals towards commercialisation of research project results, or through the transfer of know-how to corporate production units.
- Seeks the quick and effective familiarisation of the company with new technologies and innovative e-services.
- Acts within the European and National research framework, implementing research projects aligned to corporate innovative ideas and strategic directives.
Several Forthnet Innovation activities have been recognised as best practices and successful projects within European level and have brought Forthnet highly ranked within the European R&D scoreboard (awarded in 2007 by the Greek Ministry of Development)
Through extensive work in Innovation, Forthnet continually develops products, which meet the changing needs of the market, and in several cases they have been well integrated within the production chain of Forthnet group. Among them, the corporate BSS/OSS infrastructure, the SLA management applications, the group messaging services platform, several smartphone applications, the spin-off companies Forthcrs (eTourism solutions provider) and Telemedicine Technologies (eHealth services provider) are indicative cases of projects' results, which further evolved and were brought into exploitation and commercial operation.
